Working from home REALLY suits some businesses AND employees. Here’s how you can make it happen safely and securely.

Feb 2022

Remote working has really come of age in the last two years, and while many people have loved it, others have come to realise they prefer an office environment. A new report has revealed that 96% of employees would be happy to switch to work from home even when the pandemic is over.

As an employer, there is obviously a lot to consider, more than just how much you trust your team to continue doing a great job or even how much you could save on office space. And if you haven’t already done so, you’ll need to make sure that your employees home working set ups are suitable to continue doing so. If your team have only had temporary working from home measurements in place for the previous two years, then it is time to make sure they are efficient and secure.

The first priority has to be looking at data security. How do your team connect to your company network? Do they have the correct security measures installed on their devices? Are their own personal networks protected from unauthorised access? Can you stop their children from having access to company devices?

However, it’s not just security which you need to consider. Look at the collaboration tools which you are using. If you team is unlikely to be in the same place at the same time, should you invest in a better solution to make sure communication doesn’t suffer? The report also found that nearly 2 in 5 people feel ignored in video meetings.

Upgrading their equipment and devices could be the answer. Professional quality webcams and microphones can help make sure video quality is high and that voices are heard. Older laptops and desktops will need to be upgraded every few years to make sure they are operating at the level which is needed. This can also end up costing you less to maintain.

Are you thinking of changing your working model to remote working or a hybrid of the two? As you can see, there’s a lot to consider. On top of guiding your business out of the pandemic, there are definitely some things that you can leave to the experts.
