“Ask Copilot” is coming to your Taskbar

Feb 2026

Have you ever wished your computer could just understand what you want to do, without you digging through menus or endless search results? Microsoft is making that a reality.

In the latest Windows 11 preview, a new feature called Ask Copilot is being tested, right on your taskbar.

Traditionally, the Windows taskbar search box finds files, apps, and settings, but that’s all. Ask Copilot takes it much further.

Now, the search box uses AI to interpret your commands and guide you directly to what you need. Want to “open last month’s invoice template,” “connect to the projector,” or “split a PDF”? Ask Copilot can handle it.

Instead of listing results, it can act on your request—opening files, adjusting settings, or giving instant answers. It’s smarter than the standard search, designed to save you time and frustration.

Ask Copilot also introduces new icons for quick features, including:

  • Copilot Vision for interpreting on-screen content
  • Voice commands so you can speak instead of typing

Worried about privacy or AI overreach? Don’t be. Ask Copilot is opt-in, and only uses the same search tools Windows already relies on. It does not have extra access to your files or private data.

For businesses, the benefits are clear: time saved and productivity increased. Your team can skip hunting for documents, Googling tasks, or navigating settings. Copilot handles it instantly, letting them focus on more important work.

Currently, Ask Copilot is in preview, but a wider rollout is likely soon. When it arrives, will you try the AI-powered taskbar search, or stick with the classic method?

Either way, Windows 11 is taking a big step toward making technology helpful, not a hindrance.
